Louis & Alicia {Groenvlei Wedding}

Louis & Alicia’s wedding ceremony was held underneath a big tree overlooking wine farms, the perfect location to take your vows in front of your family and friends.

I have known Louis for many years and when I met his fiancé, Alicia, I could see that he found is perfect match and best friend. Getting to know Alicia throughout our meetings, I became even more excited to shoot their wedding, because I knew it would be a stunning day, filled with laughter and special moments…I was right. ;)

Louis & Alicia, congratulations!!! May your marriage be blessed with love, adventures & many more special moments. Thank you for having Nic and myself at your wedding.

How did you meet?
We met through mutual friends.

Engagement…
We went to Yzerfontein for the weekend, with a few of our best friends. All our friends knew that he was going to propose, and everyone tried really hard to keep it a secret but I had my suspicions. A bit later the one afternoon, he insisted that we go for a walk on the beach (he didn’t even allow me to finish my coffee first, which is when I realized that something was about to happen). He then took me to a picnic spot that he had set up on the beach, and he had all my favourite snacks, sparkling wine, a picnic blanket, and whole lot of hearts drawn in the sand. Just after we sat down, he poured some sparkling wine, took the ring out of his pocket and asked me to marry him!

We had a few non-negotiable items when we started looking at venues. We were specifically looking for venues where we could get married outside, and also venues which had accommodation on the premises (or very close by). I cannot remember how many venues we went to look at, but it was a lot! I decided on a “blue-and-blush” theme, and loved the idea of rose gold to add a bit of warmth. It helped a lot that the venue itself was already beautiful, and we did not need to do much more to add our own touch. While you’re busy with the planning, it’s difficult to see the whole picture – but I was extremely happy with how everything came together in the end.

What advice do you have for future brides?
Enjoy every moment of the planning process, as your actual wedding day will fly by in a wink. Make sure you choose your service providers well. I am so happy with each person/ service provider that was involved in our wedding, and I did not need to worry about any of them not doing what they were supposed to. Lastly, remember what the day is about, and just enjoy every moment – even if everything doesn’t go according to plan.

Most memorable moment of your wedding.
There were so many special moments, that it’s difficult to just mention one. I can still vividly recall how I felt when I walked down the isle – something between overwhelming excitement and happiness. The ceremony was beautiful, and I’ll never forget that. Our entry as a married couple, our first dance, and our speeches for each other – these are all etched into my memory. Our guests made us feel so special; the dance floor was never empty, and everybody had an amazing time. We could not have wished for more!

Leroné & Mauritz {Maternity}

There is nothing more beautiful and wondrous than a pregnant belly. The miracle of life.

When I met Leroné and her husband, Mauritz, at the studio, I could feel the love and excitement between them about their soon to be born baby girl, Katherine. They also brought along their three furry kids, which added to the energy in the air.

Leroné & Mauritz, I know that you will be awesome parents to Katherine. I wish you all the happiness, blessings and joy for your family’s journey ahead.

To Photographers: I definitely recommend The Square Cube for studio/indoor shoots. It is an amazing space.

Frans & Nicci {Suikerbossie Wedding}

Frans and Nicci’s wedding was held at Suikerbossie restaurant. The view from the venue is spectacular, exactly how the day turned out after a stormy Friday.

I was looking forward to this wedding, since meeting Frans and Nicci. There was a true connection between them and I could clearly see the evidence of a couple that are going to be happily married.

One of the highlights of the day for me was during the ceremony. Seeing the couples family and friends who all filled the pews to witness Frans and Nicci getting married, along with the presence of love and faith in the church was truly beautiful.

Frans and Nicci, thank you for choosing Nic and myself to capture your most special day.

How did you meet?
Unofficially… at a group movie night with a bunch of friends. Frans wished they could speak more, Nicci thought he was nice but in the big group didn’t get to find out much about him. For a few months we didn’t see each other and then we both took a chance with online dating (OK Cupid). We met over a coffee. Nicci said she thought Frans looked familiar but he could not remember… Nicci liked Frans instantly and he said “Maybe we can do this again next week?”

Engagement…
We went on a trip around the peninsula. First we looked at the penguins at Boulders Beach and then meandered abound Cape Point ending up at Scarborough. Nicci was not expecting Frans to propose on that day but she was hoping that he would! The ring was hidden in a box of Eet-sum-mor biscuits that was opened with tea. It was cold and windy, so he proposed in the car after reading a poem expressing his deep love for Nicci. He thought it took forever for her to say yes, and he was relieved when she did!

Tell us more about your wedding. Where did you find inspiration? Which elements were the most important to you?
People having a good time, and being able to talk to as many of them as possible. We wanted a very small and intimate wedding so that we would be able to spend time with our guests.

What advice do you have for future brides?
Try to start early with planning, not leaving things until the last minute. Important things to organise early are venue, photographer (Yolande is very good!). Try not to stress… it comes together slowly. On the day… just enjoy every minute. Even if things aren’t perfect (like your dance), it’s your day.

Most memorable moment of your wedding.
Walking down the aisle, both of us laughing and crying at the same time.
People cheering while we danced and fumbled at the reception.
